There are plenty of fun places to take a family trip. I enjoy the mountains, beach, and lake very much. But one of my favorite trips was when my family and I went to New York City. We tasted, smelled, saw, and heard many different things.
The things we tasted were delicious! One night we went to a restaurant called Serendipity 3. I got a my meal and it was delicious. Although the meal was good, the part I remember most was dessert. I had ordered the restaurant’s specialty, the frozen hot chocolate. It smelled very strongly of chocolate and whipped cream. When the waiter put it down on the table, I couldn't resist very long. I had to have it!
When I was in New York City, I smelled some nice and terrible things. My family and I were walking and passed several hot dog stands. They smelled wonderful! The stand smelled of french fries, bubbling oil, and cooking meat. My mouth was watering! The hot dogs were amazing! Then we moved down the street and the pleasant smells left me. Then, I picked up the stench of gasoline. It was a stronger smell than anything that I had ever smelled. The smell of gasoline was a demon that followed my nose almost everywhere! There were pleasant and things that weren't pleasant that I smelled.
In New York City there were many things to see. No matter what street you were on, you could always see a skyscraper. They were all around you, all the time. Even out our hotel window, the Chrysler Building was right next to our hotel! One day we went to the top of the Empire State Building. My ears were popping the whole elevator ride to the top! When we got off the elevator, you could see most of the city out windows. It was incredible. After we went out of the building, we went ice skating at Rockefeller Center. I wasn't very good at first, but I got the hang of it. There was a large gold statue above the ice. It was very pretty. The sunlight glinted off the gold so much it made my eyes squint! On our way to our hotel, stores lined the streets. There were tons of them! All the stores on the streets were like an endless abyss that called me to come into them. I saw many things on my trip to New York City.
I also heard many things when I was in New York City. The first thing I heard when I stepped off the plane was people talking. In New York City, there is always somebody talking. People talking to each other was like birds singing the day away. Then my family and I left the airport and there were taxis everywhere! One after the other they honked at each other. The honking seemed as though it would never end! Each taxi would stop and honk several times for the person in front of them to hurry up. On every street there was always a taxi honking! By the end of my first day in New York City, I thought I had heard enough talking and honking to last me a life time!
In New York City I also felt many things. Since we were there in December, I felt cold air and wind on my face. The wind was so cold my face went numb. I also felt the sting of warm air from a store as I walked into it out of the cold outside. I also felt the hard pavement under my feet everyday that we were there. Then, after a long day of walking and sight-seeing, I felt the soft sheets wrap around me as I fell asleep. These are a few things I felt in New York City.
After six days in the Big Apple, my family and I headed home. New York City was a very nice place to visit. I hope that I can visit again soon. In New York City, there are many things to taste, smell, see, and hear.
